Who Is the iCarsoft MB V4.0 For?
The MB V4.0 is designed for Mercedes-Benz owners, enthusiasts and independent workshops that need more than basic fault-code reading.
It is a strong choice if you want to diagnose faults across multiple Mercedes control systems, perform maintenance procedures, run active component tests and use advanced Mercedes-specific diagnostic functions without moving to a subscription-based workshop platform.
Full-System Mercedes-Benz Diagnostics
Unlike a basic Mercedes OBD2 scanner that mainly communicates with the engine control unit, the iCarsoft MB V4.0 can access numerous control modules throughout supported vehicles.
Depending on the vehicle, diagnostic access can include:
- Engine
- Automatic transmission
- ABS
- Airbag / SRS
- Electronic parking brake
- Steering systems
- Body control modules
- Climate control
- Instrument cluster

- Other manufacturer-specific control modules
Functions include reading and clearing diagnostic trouble codes, viewing live data, system scanning, AutoVIN vehicle identification and access to manufacturer-specific diagnostic information.
Full Bidirectional Control and Active Tests
The MB V4.0 supports full bidirectional diagnostics, allowing the scanner to send commands directly to supported vehicle control modules. This makes it possible to test components during troubleshooting instead of relying only on fault codes and live data.
Depending on the vehicle and control module, active tests can include components such as:
- ABS pump motor
- Window regulators
- Fuel pump
- Wiper and washer motors
- EGR valve
- Fuel injectors
- Cooling fans
- Transmission solenoids
- Door locks
- Mirrors
- Other supported actuators
The manufacturer lists more than 22 active-test categories, although exact availability depends on the vehicle, model year and installed control modules.
41 Service and Maintenance Functions
The iCarsoft MB V4.0 includes 41 service and maintenance functions for supported vehicles, combining common maintenance procedures with more advanced repair and calibration functions.
These include 9 commonly used maintenance functions plus 32 higher-level functions. Availability depends on the exact vehicle and control unit.
Common Service Functions
- Oil / service reset
- Electronic parking brake / brake pad service
- Electronic throttle control
- Steering angle sensor calibration
- DPF regeneration
- Injector coding
- ABS bleeding
- Battery management reset
- TPMS-related functions
Advanced Diagnostic and Teach-In Functions
Depending on the vehicle, the MB V4.0 can also support advanced Mercedes-specific procedures such as:
- Intake valve calibration
- Upstream oxygen sensor calibration
- NOx storage catalyst replacement adaptation
- SCR upstream NOx sensor learned value reset
- Drive authorization system teach-in
- Camshaft position teach-in
- SCR downstream NOx sensor replacement teach-in
- Calibration value reset
- Pedal angle sensor teach-in
- Intake port shutoff teach-in
- Wheel electronics ID programming
Advanced functions vary significantly by vehicle, model year and control unit. Compatibility should always be confirmed when a specific procedure is required.
MB V3.0 vs MB V4.0
The MB V4.0 is the successor to the MB V3.0. Both offer full-system diagnostics and bidirectional active tests, but the V4.0 introduces major hardware, usability and coverage improvements.

For users comparing the two versions, the biggest V4.0 improvements are the 5-inch touchscreen, Android platform, Wi-Fi updating, expanded service functions and two additional vehicle make groups.
Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter, Smart and Maybach Coverage
The MB V4.0 comes pre-installed with dedicated diagnostic software for:
- Mercedes-Benz
- Sprinter
- Smart
- Maybach
The manufacturer states compatibility from approximately 1996 to 2025, depending on model, system and diagnostic connector. Specific diagnostic functions always vary by vehicle.
Two Additional Vehicle Make Groups Included
In addition to the pre-installed Mercedes group, the MB V4.0 allows you to download two additional supported vehicle make groups free of charge.
This gives the device a total of three vehicle groups without additional diagnostic software subscription fees.
Available groups include BMW, Chrysler, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, Jaguar/Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel/Vauxhall, Porsche, PSA, Renault/Dacia, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota/Lexus, Volvo, VAG and others supported by iCarsoft.

It also supports a wide range of traditional automotive communication protocols for older vehicles.
AutoVIN Vehicle Identification
The AutoVIN function can automatically identify supported vehicles through the diagnostic connection, reducing the need to manually enter vehicle information and helping speed up the diagnostic process.
Lifetime Free Wi-Fi Updates
Software updates for the MB V4.0 are included for the lifetime of the device. Updates are downloaded directly through Wi-Fi, so the scanner does not normally need to be connected to a computer for updating.
There are no annual diagnostic software subscription fees.
5-Inch Android Touchscreen
The MB V4.0 uses a modern Android-based interface with a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen.
- Android operating system
- 5-inch capacitive LCD touchscreen
