What can be identified from the serial number?
iCarsoft serial numbers contain hardware / generation information, but not every prefix uniquely identifies the exact scanner model. OBD Europe only auto-matches prefixes that are documented clearly enough to avoid a wrong download.
HD701…→ iCarsoft HD V3.0 → dedicated HD V3.0 Upgrade Tool.IV304…→ documented V3.0-series serial pattern → MSDIAG PC Client.IV101…/iV101…→ documented PC-connected handheld serial family → MSDIAG PC Client.iH…→ used across several newer CAN-FD-capable handhelds. This prefix alone is not specific enough to determine the exact scanner model, so select / enter the model name instead.
How to update V1.0 / V2.0 / V3.0 and CR / EU handheld scanners
- Download the iCarsoft MSDIAG PC Client above and extract the ZIP file.
- Install the PC client on a Windows computer.
- Connect the scanner according to its manual. V2/V3 devices can use the USB connection; supported models may also use the TF-card workflow.
- Open the iCarsoft MSDIAG PC Client. The program reads / requests the scanner serial number.
- Select Upgrade, review the available software packages and start the update.
- Do not disconnect the scanner, USB cable or TF card until the client confirms that the update has completed.
How to update HD V3.0
- Download and extract the HD V3.0 Upgrade Tool.
- Connect the HD V3.0 to the Windows PC by USB.
- Run the dedicated HD V3.0 Upgrade Tool.
- The tool should identify an HD V3.0 serial family such as
HD701…. - Select the required language and start the upgrade.
- Keep the scanner connected until the tool reports a successful update.
How to update V4.0 and Wi-Fi models
No Windows updater is required. Connect the scanner to Wi-Fi, open the device’s Upgrade menu and install the available software updates directly on the scanner.
Common update problems
“This is not an iCarsoft product”
This message commonly appears when the wrong updater generation has been installed. Use the search above and confirm the exact scanner model. Do not switch between the HD V3.0 utility and the normal MSDIAG client.
My serial begins with iH
The iH prefix is used on more than one newer iCarsoft handheld family and can indicate newer CAN-FD-capable hardware. It is not enough on its own to identify MB, JP, CR, EU or another exact model. Enter the model name printed on the scanner instead.
The scanner is not detected
Confirm that the ZIP has been extracted, the correct client is installed, the original USB / TF-card update method is being used and the scanner is in its update mode. Try another USB port before assuming the scanner is faulty.
